Georgia corporate pilot Bob Smith has a soaring sideline: helping couples join the infamous "mile-high club." For $299, he'll take a frisky twosome past 5,280 feet in a Piper Cherokee 6 fitted with a mattress. The hour-long flights out of Carrollton, Ga., have lured couples from as far as New York.

Urban fishing casts wider net of popularity

Hostels attracting older travelers
Many of the world's hostels are changing to cater to the pre-planner. Hostelworld.com, which lists more than 10,000 worldwide hostels on its website, books reservations for about 20,000 customers every day. Five years ago, only 1,000 people booked stays at a hostel.

Europe, U.S. seek new air data deal
Top European and U.S. officials kicked off talks on Friday to try to replace an annulled deal on sharing air passenger data to avoid possible disruptions to air travel when the arrangement expires on Sept. 30. Under post-9/11 anti- terrorism arrangements, European airlines supply U.S. authorities with information on passengers entering the United States, but an EU court struck down the deal on a legal technicality.

Passport delays loom for short-hop cruisers
Don't wait much longer to get a passport if you're planning a winter cruise to the Caribbean or Mexico. Industry watchers such as Mike Driscoll expect delays at passport offices in the weeks leading up to Jan. 8, which is the day new government rules take effect. The rules require all cruisers to carry passports, even on three-day trips.
