French Quarter set to roll
|
Much of the coverage surrounding the first anniversary of Hurricane
Katrina
will focus on the still-abandoned neighborhoods and the bureaucratic
lethargy
that hampers the rebuilding effort in New Orleans. But the areas that
attract
the most visitors -- the French Quarter, the Garden District and the
Warehouse
and Arts District -- escaped much of the storm and flood damage and now
are
leading the city's recovery.

Personal music players: An artwork in progress
|
It wasn't long ago that a visitor to an art museum caught listening to
a
personal music player in the galleries could expect a sharp rebuke from
the
guards. Now it's encouraged. One of the fastest-growing trends at art
museums
is the so-called iPod tour -- an audio tour that visitors can download
to
their personal iPods or other portable music players from their home
computers
before heading to the museum.

All signs point to ... huh?

The Burma Shave signs that peppered American highways with homespun
wisdom in
the first half of the 20th century exited long ago. But keep your eyes
open if
you're hitting the road on Labor Day weekend. You're bound to spot
plenty of
roadside insights both wise and otherwise.
