Bogotá is a city of contrasts. From its founding in 1538 until today it has been growing steadily and shaping its identity. Bogotá was a typical colonial city in the beginning, but around the turn of the 20th century, other European tendencies began to replace the dominant Spanish influence. France's influence is evident in many of the palaces built during this period. Residential areas show English influence in houses built during the mid-20th century. And finally, one can feel the United States' influence in the new skyscrapers and huge shopping centers built toward the end of the 20th century. The best way to experience this vast variety of architectures is by visiting Bogota's distinct districts, which retain their rich individual characters. Immerse yourself in the city's culture, entertainment and varied cuisine.

Things to do
New Year's Day
The first day of Colombia's official annual holidays, New Year's Day, is primarily considered as a day of recovery from the wild, and often violent New Year's Eve festivities. Smaller street parties and public celebrations make this a calmer, safer and a pleasant time to be out. Especially, look for bands playing traditional music and vendors selling traditional foods. Note of caution: Leftover fireworks may detonate. Many activities center around the Plaza de Bolivar. Admission to most events is free.

Across the City Bogota Colombia
This national holiday marks the end of the long Christmas season in Colombia. By tradition, this is the day on which the three kings discovered baby Jesus. On this day, children reenact bible stories surrounding the event on the balconies of the Parroquia de Nuestra Se de Egipto. It is a day of festivity with processions and dancing in the streets.

First time to Bogota and everything was a surprise after the other, from the larger than life avenues to luxury malls, great cuisine, spring-ish/chill mostly overcast weather, the north city is extremely wealthy and expensive in contrast from the south part and the "invaciones" (poor barrios). We encounters no safety issues whatsoever ...just be smart and have common sense, Bogota is also one of the cleanest cities I have ever been to, stylish beautiful looking people everywhere... and I'm...
